Welcome to the Community Teacher
TCT is a community learning initiative that aims to support its members with courses and training to help them gain confidence to communicate without fear whilst empowering them to take on life’s challenges with courage built on the strength they gain from belonging to this place.
This has been the case for us since 2018, as we’ve worked with at-risk communities at centres such as the Bristol Community Learning Centre, where refugees, asylum seekers, and migrants who struggled to adapt to the UK for different reasons were offered tools to improve their communications skills which eased their transition to a new country.
Our work with the University of the Third Age supported the elderly with new language skills that gave them a sense of belonging in a new place. We brought together groups of people to a safe place where they could connect on things such as languages, books, and other hobbies. Helping to forge friendships was a key element to help combat their sense of loneliness in their new homes in the UK.
